Researcher at SANBI. Mainly in optimal conservation planning, mapping vegetation communities, Proteaceae, Citizen Science projects, invasive alien detection and control, restoration ecology of Fynbos.

Also involved with IUCN Species Survival Commission, CREW, Forestry Research Commission, and various local Groups. Currently the UCT Harold Pearson Chair of Botany.

Currently: negotiating with iNaturalist on behalf of SANBI and the southern African Citizen Science community.

Curator of iSpot southern Africa (2012-2017) and iNaturalist (2017-2021).
