I'm a biologist/botanist from Southern California. I like organisms. I especially like looking for rare birds, Calochortus lilies, monkeyflowers, fungi, herps, GALLS, lady beetles, and interesting weeds, etc., etc.

Feel free to tag me for California bird/herp/plant IDs (or anything else, but no promises) and/or ask ID questions (that I may not know the answers to, but I'll do what I can to point you towards other resources/users).

My main areas of ID expertise are birds, plants, and herps (of California). Most of my work has involved botanical surveys and bird surveys but I've also worked on projects involving insects, freshwater fish, reptiles, amphibians, fungi, terrestrial mammals, and marine mammals. I've also worked in avian and botanical specimen collections (www.wfvz.org and the UCSC natural history museum: https://norriscenter.ucsc.edu/collections/index.html). I moved from field jobs to non-profit work to private consulting work and back to non-profit work, and I currently work for the California Native Plant Society rare plant program (https://www.cnps.org/rare-plants).

Please Note: Some of my photographs include plucked/pulled/salvaged/netted/dead organisms (usually plants, sometimes birds, rarely other stuff) as some of my work involves capturing and marking or collecting voucher specimens. Any such organisms are handled or collected with appropriate permits, and are deposited in museums/herbaria for research purposes and are not wantonly yanked up for no reason
