I grew up surrounded by family involved in the biological sciences. My father and uncle were both entomologists and my grandmother was a biology teacher. It was inevitable that some would rub off on me. As long as I can remember I have been spending as much spare time as possible out in the field. During this time I developed and nurtured my interest in entomology, especially hymenoptera, focusing primarily on ants. In the years prior to my fathers death he and I were working to revise his earlier work on the California desert ants. Along the way I developed a deep interest in the taxonomy of the New World Army ants which lead to a revision of the species of Neivamyrmex in the United States. Since then I have been working on a few more ant related projects, including finalizing a few projects my father was working on.
